This is my first Paris inspired painting! This famous windmill is located in Montmartre, Paris. In the 1700’s this area was pastoral land filled with vineyards and windmills. It inspired many artists including Van Gogh, Renoir, and Pissarro. In the late 19th century it was the location of a famous beer garden where Auguste Renoir painted this famous painting:
As I was working on my own painting I was so aware of the artists that came before me. Those who broke ground and even suffered for their art. Although, I am no where near being one of them, I felt a sense of heritage as I painted this. I could almost feel the presence of these wonderful creative souls as I worked.
Paris was full of these inspirational ghosts.
