Mixed-media on wood panel
I’m not an early riser, I’ve never been an early riser, and I never will be an early riser. When I started kindergarten I had to get up at some crazy hour like 5 am in the morning. I hated it! I liked school, but getting up was a struggle from that first day until the last day of my senior year. I loved college because I could set the times for my classes later in the morning, knowing I’d never get up in time for an early class.
The Composer, my husband, is always up at the crack of dawn or sooner. The Director, my son, doesn’t appear until after noon. I’m somewhere in the middle.
When I was a little girl, I spent several weeks on my cousins farm in Indiana. It’s one of my best childhood memories. Horses, chickens, a million cats, dogs and a bunch of other farm animals. They had this really feisty rooster that was up at the crack of dawn every morning doing that thing that roosters do. I would moan and groan until he stopped and then fall back asleep.
Even though I don’t share the early morning with the rooster, I do love them. I love the colored feathers, the way they walk, the crazy red thing on the top of their heads. I think they’re beautiful. They also remind me of that wonderful time on my cousins farm where life was simple and fun.
I’m trying some new things with mixed-media. I’ve added fabric to this one, giving me more textures and layers. I loved this one so much that I’ve done two more that I’ll be posting the next few days.
For those of you that read this, I want to say “thank you” for taking the time! Have a wonderful week!
